SCOTTISH EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX CANCELLATIONS
Perth had only one experimental canceller but it was recut twice
Characteristics: The ‘normal’ experimental design with four short bars each side of ‘280’
Proofed: 4th April 1856
EKD: 27th July 1856 (SPG state having seen 22nd May 1856)
LKD: 1st May 1858
Months of Use:
Known Codes:
Scarcity Rating: D (Not Common)
Characteristics: From the narrative in the Proof Books both the handstamp and the codes (the ‘types’) were recut but there is no noticeable difference in the design; hence this being designated as a recut rather than a new Type
Proofed: 19th May 1858
EKD: 27th May 1858
LKD: 30th November 1859
Months of Use:
I have two scanned examples dated 1st September 1885. (see Gallery). It is assumed that the 5 and the 8 were inserted the wrong way around and in fact should be 1858. They have therefore been included here.
Known Codes:
Scarcity Rating: D (Not Common)
Characteristics: Again there is no noticeable difference in the design subsequent to this further recut.
Proofed: 29th December 1859 (Kirkwood often inserted the following year in their December Proofs)
EKD: 13th June 1860 ( a long gap from the Proof date)
LKD: 18th January 1862 (SPG state having seen 14th February 1862)
Months of Use:
Known Codes:
Scarcity Rating: D (Not Common)
