SCOTTISH EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX CANCELLATIONS
Stirling used only one experimental canceller and it was well used during it’s 3+ year life. There were no recuts.
Characteristics: The ‘normal’ experimental design with four short bars each side of ‘308’. There is a break in the bar under ‘3’ as can be seen in the proof above and this remains constant throughout the life of this mark.
Additionally, around June 1856 there was damage to the ‘1’ in the year which left it truncated. During October/November 1857 something happened to the days of the month as they appear very much misplaced (see Gallery).
