SCOTTISH EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX CANCELLATIONS
Dumfries used only one Experimental postmark rather sparingly over a 21 month period; there were no recuts.
Characteristics: The ‘normal’ Experimental design with four short bars each side of ‘108’. As can be seen from the above Proof image, the letter ‘F’ is complete. However, with the exception of an example dated 12th February 1856 (see Picture Gallery below), on every other example I have seen the top horizontal bar of the letter is missing.
Proofed: 1st January 1856
EKD: 3rd January 1856
LKD: 17th October 1857
Months of Use:
Known Codes:
* The Code D is blurred and so is questionable.
Scarcity Rating: E (Scarce),the bulk of the examples are in relatively few hands. A very rare example dated 9th September 1857 has been seen in a true BLUE colour (see Picture Gallery) and this can be rated H (Very Few Recorded)
